Russell Wilson's scary head injury: loses consciousness and gets visible head bump

Publish date: 2024-06-01

Russell Wilson suffered what seemed like an obvious concussion from the get-go against the Kansas City Chiefs. The QB scrambled towards the goal line in the 4th quarter and was abruptly stopped around the goal line, slamming his helmet into the turf with great force.

Before the cameras even zoomed in, his Broncos teammates were already requesting medical assistance from the sidelines. Having trouble even collecting his gaze, the quarterback slowly got up moments later and was able to head towards the blue medical tent escorted by Broncos staff.

The impact was so severe, that he even had a large visible bump on his head, despite wearing a helmet.

Backup quarterback Brett Rypien was called in for the next play and Wilson, not surprisingly, was declared out minutes later.

The injury made a Broncos comeback that much harder

The Broncos were just starting to gain momentum and an upset against the Kansas City Chiefs was in the works. Although Rypien was able to cap off Russell Wilson's great drive with a short TD pass to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

The Broncos ended up losing the game against the Chiefs (34-28) and are now at an abysmal 3-10 for the 2022 NFL season.
