Jennifer Aniston Gets Emotional After Winning Her First SAG Award Since 1996!

Publish date: 2024-04-14

It’s been no less than 25 years since Jennifer Aniston won an award at the SAG Awards so now that she finally walked home with a statuette again, she got a bit emotional! Last night was definitely very special for the actress who made sure to mention how much the honor of winning the Outstanding Female in a Drama Series award for her role in The Morning Show meant to her.

The last time she also won something at the same awards show was back in 1996 and it was with the cast of Friends!

However, this marked the tenth time that she was nominated at SAG, eight times being for Friends between 1996 and 2004 and the ninth being in 2015 for her part in Cake.

Winning this year was even more special for her since she was against some massive names in the industry – Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Colman, Elisabeth Moss and Jodie Comer – all of whom were in huge, critically acclaimed productions.

‘What? Oh my gosh, this is so unbelievable. What a room,’ she started her acceptance speech, tearing up.

She went on: ‘I was thinking to when I was just a little girl and I’d – I did not have a VCR but had a tape recorder and I’d tape Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days on my tape deck, and would listen to these episodes in my head, and I’d just think, ‘One day, I am going to do that. I really know I am going to get out of this house, and I am going to be up there. I am going to be that.’’

Sure enough, ‘then I got a Bob’s Big Boy commercial, and got into SAG, and they were just humble beginnings, but you have to start somewhere. So I just have to say, I am so grateful.’

Make sure to check out her whole speech if you haven’t yet!
