Ed responded to the news, tweeting “thank you !  amazing x”.

According to the BPI website, an album becomes Platinum in the UK when it reaches 300,000 sales. This means that at 4x Platinum ÷ has sold an unprecedented 1,200,000 copies in only four weeks.

Ed isn’t doing too badly across the globe either, earning a Gold certification and selling 500,000 copies in the US. He’s also topped sales in Australia and across Europe.

Right now Ed Sheeran is at the top of his game and is well on his way to global pop domination. It’s looking like ÷ will easily top the sales of Ed’s previous album X, which currently stands at 3 million sales in the UK and 4 million in the US.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this guy.

If you haven’t already, (why not?) ÷ is available to buy now at edsheeran.com.

What do you make of that then? Surprised by Ed’s success? Let us know with a tweet @CelebMix.
